Harmonic Tuning
Vocal intonation practice in dyads and triads
Hear the supporting notes of a harmony and sing the missing target. Practise how your note relates to the surrounding sound, rather than matching an isolated reference.
Start with Free Training. You will need a microphone; headphones are recommended. Opening this guide or the exercise page does not start audio or request microphone access.
What you practise
Harmonic Tuning focuses on adjusting a sung note within an interval or chord. It gives you a way to explore how the target changes with its harmonic role.
This is a different task from matching an isolated note. It can support individual practice for ensemble singing, but it does not assess your blend with real singers or the tuning of a whole choir.
How it works
- Open the exercise and choose Free Training.
- Review the dyad or triad context and the note you will sing.
- Start an attempt and allow microphone access when requested.
- Listen to the supporting notes and sing the missing target.
- Adjust against the harmony and hold within the target tolerance until the attempt completes.
Dyads
A dyad contains two notes. The interval and target role determine the reference and the note you sing.
Triads
A triad contains three notes. The supporting chord is played without your target note, so your voice completes the harmony.

Understand the feedback
The live indicator compares your detected pitch with a target calculated from the harmonic context. That target can differ from an equal-tempered note, so a piano frequency is not always the intended destination.
The attempt score is the absolute smoothed pitch error at completion, in cents. It is not a measure of the whole phrase, vocal quality or artistic expression. Lower means closer to that harmonic target at completion.
Free Training and Test
Use Free Training to explore the harmony and your target role. A Test contains ten completed attempts and reports their average score in cents to two decimal places. Once an attempt starts, you cannot stop it and replace it; leaving abandons the incomplete Test.
Free Training is available without an account. To take a Test, register or sign in; the account is free. Completed Tests are saved to your account history. Free Training and unfinished Tests are not saved as Test results.
Harmonic Tuning results are for personal progress and do not appear on the public leaderboard. Compare similar harmonic settings: different intervals, chords and target roles are different tasks.
Practice tips
Listen to the supporting harmony before singing. Keep your voice and playback at a comfortable level, and use headphones so the microphone can pick up your voice clearly.
Make small adjustments and listen to how your note fits. Use the visual feedback to check what you hear, then bring that attention back to an ensemble passage.

For a single sustained reference, try Drone. To reproduce a note after hearing it, use Match the Pitch. To compare pitch differences without singing, explore Pitch Discrimination.
